Compare documents without software
Word processors like Microsoft Word have a built-in "Track Changes" feature — but only if you remembered to enable it before editing. If you have two separate versions of a document and need to find what changed, a dedicated text diff tool is faster and simpler.
Paste both versions of your text, click Compare, and see every difference highlighted word by word. Added content appears in green, removed content in red. You can also switch to Unified view to see all changes in a single reading flow.
Who uses this tool
- →Writers and editors — track changes between draft versions of an article, blog post, or book chapter without relying on version history
- →Students — compare an essay before and after proofreading to confirm all revisions were applied
- →Translators — align a source text with its translation to verify coverage and spot skipped sentences
- →SEO specialists — compare two versions of a landing page or meta description to confirm what was changed before publishing
- →Legal and compliance — review contract or policy changes between two versions with every word-level edit clearly visible
How to compare documents in three steps
- Copy the original document text and paste it into the Text A (left) field
- Copy the revised version and paste it into the Text B (right) field
- Click Compare — differences appear immediately, colour-coded by addition or removal
Frequently asked questions
How do I compare two versions of a document online?
Paste the original version into Text A (left) and the revised version into Text B (right). Click Compare. Added words are highlighted green and removed words red — instantly, no account required.
Can I compare Word documents or PDFs?
The tool works with plain text. For Word documents, copy and paste the text content. For PDFs, select and copy the text before pasting. Up to 50,000 characters per field is supported.
Is there a word or character limit?
Each field supports up to 50,000 characters — roughly 7,000 to 10,000 words. This covers most articles, essays, and business documents. For very long documents, compare in sections.
Is my document text stored anywhere?
No. The text is processed in server memory and discarded immediately after the result is returned. Nothing is saved to a database. For sensitive documents, you can also compare entirely client-side using a local tool like diff in your terminal.
